The proposed
timetable for ECML improvements has been released by Railtrack.
Phase One includes;
A £l65million redevelopment of Leeds.
Phase Two, scheduled for completion between 2000 and 2004, will include:
Hatfield South relocate crossover
Holloway - Alexandra Palace new track layout;
Alexandra Palace: bridge works;
Frinsbury Park: New platforms;
Peterborough - London power upgrade
London King’s Cross: additional platform capacity.
Edinburgh-Berwick; new loops / extensions;
Berwick-Newcastle: new loops / extensions; some changes in Operation; conversion
of Markle level crossing;
Gateshead - Ferryhill (Leamside route) reopening;
Norwood curve reinstatement of the chord line;
Northallerton - Ferryhill: level-crossing upgrade; signalling alterations gauge
enlargement
York station resignalling to improve pathing;
Wakefield Westgate new platform signalling and track modifications
Milford track remodelling
Brotherton tunnel gauge enlargement
South EImsall; installation of new chord line
Doncaster North: signalling modifications
Doncaster South remodelling new chord line at South Yorkshire Junction
Doncaster-.Lincoln ~ Spalding Peterborough part relaying and loading-gauge enlargement;
Allinglon, new chord line;
Peterborough station: additional platforms, remodelling
Huntingdon - Woodwalton: increase from three to four tracks
Phase
Three, scheduled for completion
2004 - 2008, will include:
Holloway - Alexandra Palace additional platforms and remodelling at Alexandra
Palace;
Hitchin new flyover
Newark flyover at the flat crossing;
Doncaster North: flyover at north end;
Yaxley - Fletton: two tracks increased to four
Phase
Four, scheduled for completion between 2007 and 2009, will include:
Welwyn: new viaducts and tunnels;
Connington -Yaxley: increasing tracks from two to four
Edinburgh Waverley: new platform; signalling and track layout modifications.
Phase four will complete the work and create a main line that will cope with planned traffic growth for both passenger and freight capacity.
